Agreement for the operation of the Patimban Container Terminal in Indonesia.
Africa Global Logistics (AGL) signed a partnership agreement at the end of 2024 as the lead member for the development and operation of the Patimban International Port, in collaboration with Toyota Tsusho Corporation and Samudera Pelabuhan Indonesia. This project reflects AGL’s ambition to participate in the development of modern and efficient logistics infrastructures on a global scale.
A project to address Indonesia's logistical challenges
With sustained economic growth and ever-increasing cargo volume, Indonesia saw the need to upgrade its deepwater infrastructure near Jakarta. The international port of Patimban has been designed to meet these major logistical challenges and support the country’s growing needs in terms of port capacity.
This new deepwater port, co-financed by the Japan International Cooperation Agency, aims to offer a strategic solution for the region, while supporting industrial development and improving the country’s logistics connectivity.
Phased operations and capabilities to adapt to the Indonesian market
AGL, Toyota Tsusho Corporation, and Samudera Pelabuhan Indonesia have incorporated PT. Patimban Global Gateway Terminal (PGT), the operating company awarded the 37-year partnership contract and dedicated to the management of the terminal.
The start of operation, scheduled for 2025, will first focus on the handling of general cargo. The container activity will start with the delivery of the gantry cranes scheduled for the summer of 2026.
Indonesia is experiencing significant growth, and the industrial area near Patimban is developing rapidly. As a result, handling capacities at Patimban Port will progressively increase to more than 3 million TEUs per year, positioning it as the second most important port on the island of Java and an essential factor in supporting Indonesia’s economic development.
