Training launch ceremony and distribution of microscience kits to owendo secondary schools
The partnership between UNESCO and Owendo Container Terminal (OCT) for the popularization of microscience kits in Owendo secondary schools is now launched. The official handover ceremony of the kits took place today at the Alenakiri High School, marking the beginning of an initiative that aims to enrich science education in the region.
Indeed, this partnership aims to improve the practice of experimental sciences by providing microscience kits adapted to non-specialized classrooms. Teachers and supervisory staff will benefit from training from 18 to 19 September and from 24 to 26 September 2024 to optimise the use of these educational tools.
This initiative comes at a time when interest in science is low, with only 4,824 students enrolled for the scientific baccalaureate exams compared to more than 20,000 for the literary and economic series. By facilitating access to quality educational resources, this project aims to generate a real enthusiasm for scientific disciplines.
«As a key economic player in Owendo, OCT is strongly committed to the local community. It is in this dynamic that we launched this project to support the secondary schools of Owendo. We are convinced that in the long term, this scheme will have a profound impact on science education, by awakening the curiosity of young people for scientific careers.» Laurent GOUTARD, Managing Director of Owendo Container
«This initiative is more than just a collaboration; it represents our shared vision of quality science education in Gabon. Together, we are laying the foundations for a future where every student can thrive in science, contributing to the prosperity of this beautiful country that is Gabon » Eric VOLI BI, UNESCO Representative in Gabon.
OCT, in collaboration with UNESCO, reaffirms its commitment to education and science, with the aim of making a concrete impact on the future of the young people of Owendo.
