Côte d’Ivoire Terminal obtains Edge Advanced Certification for the energy efficiency of its buildings

Côte d’Ivoire Terminal (CIT), operator of the 2nd container terminal in the port of Abidjan, has been awarded the Excellence in Designing for Greater Efficiencies (EDGE-Advanced) certification by the International Finance Corporation (IFC). This certification recognises CIT’s mastery of environmental aspects during the design and construction phase, as well as the energy efficiency of its buildings (maintenance workshop and operations building).

This certification attests to the compliance of the buildings constructed by the port operator with the EDGE standard, which incorporates some of the most advanced requirements in terms of environmental management (eco-design, materials, durability, water savings, energy savings, etc.). According to the IFC, EDGE Advanced-certified buildings in Côte d’Ivoire Terminal deliver energy savings of at least 23% compared with a conventional building, water savings of 30% and energy efficiency of construction materials of 49% to 55%. It is the third AGL entity to receive EDGE certification for its buildings.

«We are delighted to announce that Côte d'Ivoire Terminal has successfully completed all the requirements of our EDGE certification process and has achieved EDGE Advanced certification. This certification demonstrates the company's commitment to sustainability and continuous improvement of the building's resource efficiency» Assan Gladys, Independent EDGE Auditor for IFC
«This certification is the result of our ongoing commitment to contribute to the rational management of natural resources by implementing sustainable technical solutions to reduce our environmental footprint and carbon footprint. I would like to congratulate all my colleagues on their excellent work. This new certification encourages us to continue our efforts by taking innovation one step further, while continuing to serve our partners and customers efficiently» Koen de Backker, Managing Director of Côte d'Ivoire Terminal

In addition to the eco-responsible commitments on its buildings, Côte d’Ivoire Terminal is committed to reducing the impact of its operational activities on the environment through a number of eco-responsibility programmes, including the acquisition of electrically powered handling equipment and machinery. The company has also been awarded the ‘Green Terminal’ label, and is the first to have been awarded 3 stars for the low impact of its activities on the environment.

«I would like to congratulate Côte d'Ivoire Terminal on this award, which confirms the gradual acceptance by all port stakeholders of the need to save resources in order to achieve sustainable development. I encourage all stakeholders to make the control of environmental aspects one of the levers of their management with a view to consolidating the position of the Abidjan port platform as a regional leader in the field of sustainability» Hien SIE, Managing Director of the Port Autonome d'Abidjan
