CAMRAIL mobilizes around safety

From 2 to 5 December 2024, CAMRAIL organised the 7th edition of the Rail Safety Day throughout its network under the theme “Rail safety: Participation of local communities for sustainable transport“.

The event, which opened on the site of the Bassa central workshops in Douala under the chairmanship of the Deputy Director General of Operations, Mr. Hamadou Bakary, was structured around open days and plenary workshops in Douala. At the same time, the coordination of the Centre, the East and the North have initiated awareness campaigns around the theme.

«The Safety Day has made it possible, to date, to note a 13% decrease in safety events compared to the same period last year. Camrail also recorded a 44% drop in high-impact and critical security events. While we are satisfied with these results, we must nevertheless remain vigilant and mobilized around the same objective, which is that of zero incidents.» Hélène-Michele Ndougsa Mbang, Acting Security Management Coordinator

CAMRAIL took the opportunity of this day to award a bonus to employees and  structures that stand out for their safety culture. In addition, as part of the sharing of experience, Sitarail took part in the work in Douala, thus strengthening the collaboration between the 2 entities, all subsidiaries of Africa Global Logistics. CFCO, the Chemin de Fer du Congo Brazzaville and Nachtigal Hydro Power Company were also among the guests.

«Railway operations require you to constantly evaluate processes in order to review and improve them if necessary. This is what we do throughout the year and Safety Day gives us the opportunity to look back on how far we have come and set new goals. At the end of the day, we want to make sure that the safety culture is anchored in each of the railway workers. » Joel Hounsinou, Managing Director of CAMRAIL

Representatives   of the communities living near the railways, as well as subcontractors and partners, also took part in the Douala work  workshops in order to impose the same demands on them.
