CAMRAIL AWARDS MEDALS OF HONOUR TO 100 RAILWAY WORKERS

CAMRAIL, a subsidiary of Africa Global Logistics, is proud to announce that 100 deserving railway workers received medals of honour from the railways on Wednesday, December 4, 2024 in Douala, during a ceremony presided over by the Minister of Transport Jean Ernest Ngallè Bibehe Massena and in the presence of other high-ranking personalities. Among them, the Minister of Employment and Vocational Training Issa Tchiroma Bakary, Serge Agnero, Regional Director Gulf of Guinea of AGL and Abbo Aboubakar, Chairman of the Board of Directors of CAMRAIL.

«We see in these distinctions a mark of recognition and appreciation of all the services that the Railway Workers, on a daily basis, render to the Nation. Men and women who ensure the mobility of the population, the supply of markets in the territory and beyond, the transport of basic necessities and construction materials.» Paul Emmanuel Nwaha, Staff Spokesperson

Instituted in 1962 by the State of Cameroon, the Railway Medal of Honor rewards the excellence of the services rendered. After a very long period, the awarding of medals of honour to the railways has resurfaced in a context marked by the concession of the railway network, the promulgation of a new law governing the railway sector in Cameroon, the launch of the five-year programme n°2, the PQ2, which consists in particular of completely renewing 568 km of track between Douala and Yaoundé on the one hand and Bélabo and Ngaoundéré on the other hand,  with financing from the State of Cameroon, the European Union, the World Bank, the European Investment Bank and the French Development Agency.

«CAMRAIL and AGL, its majority shareholder, intend to continue to invest in the modernization of Cameroon's railway network in order to make it even more competitive and enable it to strengthen its role as a driver of local and sub-regional development.» Joel Hounsinou, Managing Director of CAMRAIL

It is worth remembering that CAMRAIL employs more than 1500 people, most of whom work in the core business. These are drivers, mechanics, controllers, visitors, station masters and security chiefs among others.  CAMRAIL’s activities have a direct impact on the communities along the railway that crosses 168 villages.
