AGL announces the acquisition of the largest crane from West Africa

In March 2024, AGL Côte d’Ivoire took delivery of a 400-tonne, 130-metre-high crane at its facilities in Abidjan, the largest lifting crane in West Africa. This investment, worth 2 million euros, or about 1.3 billion CFA francs, is intended to increase the operational capacities of AGL Côte d’Ivoire, through the strengthening of the fleet of its special transport and lifting directorate.

This cable-stayed crane equipped with a telescopic boom of up to 60 meters, will allow the company to respond effectively to the high demand for high-capacity cranes necessary for the realization of large-scale projects in the energy, infrastructure, construction, port handling, mining, etc. sectors. This mobile crane will also offer the possibility to AGL Côte d’Ivoire’s operational teams to meet the demands coming from the countries of the sub-region.

Loaded from the port of Antwerp in Belgium, this equipment was first received at the Abidjan Ro-Ro Terminal (TERRA), where the teams carried out the handling operations, before being delivered to the AGL Côte d’Ivoire Special Transport and Lifting Directorate site in Vridi, in the municipality of Treichville.

Thanks to this new handling equipment, AGL Côte d’Ivoire has strategic equipment, allowing it to actively contribute to the economic and social development of Côte d’Ivoire and the West African sub-region.

«We are pleased to acquire this 400-tonne crane, which provides us with the material resources to effectively meet the rapidly growing local demand for lifting. The large capacity of this road crane is a godsend, especially for our oil partners, whose handling of "wellheads and risers" on yards in support of offshore oil exploitation will now be managed. This investment will also give greater influence to the expertise of AGL Côte d'Ivoire's lifting teams in cranes throughout the sub-region» Joël Hounsinou, Managing Director of AGL Côte d'Ivoire
