Abidjan Terminal supports girl’s access to scientific fields in Côte d’Ivoire

Abidjan Terminal, a subsidiary of AGL (Africa Global Logistics) and the leading operator of the container terminal at the Port of Abidjan, celebrated the best young female mathematicians of Côte d’Ivoire on July 18, 2024, at the Palais de la Culture in Abidjan during the 18th edition of the Miss Mathematics competition. The winners of the competition received computer equipment and school kits from the port operator.

This competition, which involves over 500 young girls, serves as a platform to highlight the best mathematical talents across Côte d’Ivoire. Initiated by the Mathematical Society of Côte d’Ivoire to spark interest in scientific disciplines among young girls, this competition showcases the best students from Terminale C and E classes, as well as those in the ninth grade.

By supporting this initiative, Abidjan Terminal contributes to the emergence of female talents in the field of sciences and strengthens the position of women in scientific research in Côte d’Ivoire and Africa.

«Abidjan Terminal makes female inclusion a major focus of its diversity promotion policy. In this regard, the Miss Mathematics competition is of great importance to us as it symbolizes the continuation of our commitment to promoting the role of women in all sectors, including the sciences. To all the winners, we extend our heartfelt encouragement to pursue their journey by striving for excellence at all levels. Abidjan Terminal will continue to support initiatives like this one that aim to promote excellence among women. » Asta Rosa Cissé, General Manager of Abidjan Terminal
«We are happy and proud of the growing enthusiasm for the Miss Mathematics competition. It is proof that the sciences are becoming less intimidating for our girls. However, there is still a long way to go to break the myth surrounding the sciences, which is why we commend companies like Abidjan Terminal that help us through their support to promote this discipline and excellence in Côte d'Ivoire» Saliou Touré, President of the Mathematical Society of Côte d'Ivoire

Abidjan Terminal is firmly committed to promoting academic excellence and the training of young people, with a particular focus on girls. The company also supports various initiatives aimed at integrating women into the logistics sector, notably through the organization WILA (Women In Logistics) in Côte d’Ivoire. In terms of education, Abidjan Terminal has funded several school renovation projects, distributed school kits and scholarships, and offered advanced training internships to young people.
