MPS increases reliability of port terminal 3
MPS (Meridian Port Services Ltd), a subsidiary of AGL (Africa Global Logistics), is progressing in Phase 2 of the Tema Port Expansion Project by partnering with Kohler, France’s leading generator manufacturer, and its official distributor, Nesstra Ghana Ltd. The objective of this contract is to improve the port’s energy infrastructure as part of the expansion of Terminal 3, aimed at increasing operational efficiency and strengthening the reliability of port services.
As part of this expansion, MPS is expanding Terminal 3 by adding a 127-hectare platform. This extension will include the installation of 15 latest-generation electric gantry cranes, powered by a high-voltage current of 20,000 volts, in order to optimise the handling of goods. To ensure continuity of operations, MPS has increased the capacity of its standby power generation plant from 12 MVA to 21 MVA. The contract signed with Kohler includes the design, procurement, installation and integration of three best-in-class KOHLER/SDMO generators, adding 9 MVAs to the existing standby power plant. Comprehensive training will be provided to MPS’s asset maintenance team.

MPS is committed to providing 24-hour operational services, ensuring efficient operations, even during power outages via the national grid. Work on this expansion will be rigorously tested and commissioned by September 2025.
With this project, MPS renews its desire to be recognized by the world’s leading shipping companies as one of the most efficient ports in sub-Saharan Africa and is also committed to realizing its ambitions with Phase 2 of the Tema Port Expansion Project.
