Official launch of the modernization of N’gueli dry port in Ndjamena par SMT
On July 11, 2024, the Chad Handling Company (SMT), one of the country’s leading logistics operators, officially launched the first phase of modernization works at the N’Gueli Dry Port in Ndjamena, Chad.
The ceremony was held under the patronage of Ali Djadda Kampard, Secretary of State for Finance and Budget, and attended by notable personalities including the honorable Hamadou Sali, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Africa Global Logistics Chad (one of SMT’s key shareholders), Taha Ibrahim Taha, Chairman of the Board of Directors of SMT, Serge Agnero, AGL Regional Director for the Gulf of Guinea, Mouktar Mahamat, General Manager of SMT, SMT shareholders, and various distinguished guests.
In accordance with the Convention for the financing, rehabilitation, construction, operation, and transfer of the N’Gueli Terminals and the Moundou-Touboro Road axis signed between the Chadian State and the Chad Handling Company (SMT) on July 12, 2006, approved by Presidential Decree No. 610/PR/PM/MCI/2006 dated July 19, 2006, and Amendments No. 1 and 2 signed on July 24, 2013, and January 21, 2021, respectively, SMT has undertaken investments in two phases to modernize the Dry Port.
The first phase of the works will include the construction of a complex comprising a three-story Customs Services building, a building for forwarding agents, a two-story building housing bank agencies, a mosque, a restaurant, and two public restroom blocks. The second phase will involve the paving of the platform and the development of various roadways and networks. This strategic modernization aims to meet the growing logistical demands of customs services and its partners, including SMT, forwarding agents, and several bank agencies. Scheduled to last 12 months, the modernization works at the N’Gueli Dry Port in Ndjamena are being carried out by AFCORP, a Chadian construction company.
More than 2 billion CFA francs (approximately 3 million euros) will be invested by the Chad Handling Company for the works in this first phase of the project, out of a total estimated budget of 6 billion CFA francs (over 9 million euros). This investment will enhance SMT’s capacity, which already includes a 1500 m² warehouse built in 2017 with its own funds.
